Duty Days and Other Jobs

The toy library is a co-operative where families meet to play and socialize. As a co-op, we need your participation in order to exist. Please drop in to see what we're about, once or a few times. After that, we strongly encourage you to join to make new friends, to be a part of a community group and to help run this valuable service for children and families.

Duty Days

You will be asked to open up the toy library 2-4 times per year, depending on our membership (the more people we have, the less work there is for everyone!). Your first time opening, you will be paired with an old member, who will show you the ropes. Duty days should not be stressful; don't worry if you are running late or think you have forgotten to do something. Whoever arrives after you will pitch in and help!

It is up to each individual to find a replacement if they are unable to make it to toy library on their duty day. Contact Operations to inform them of any changes to the duty roster, or to sign up for duty days, and also notify Alina to update our online Calendar.

Committees

You will also be asked to join a committee. Again, these jobs are not difficult or time consuming - they simply help to keep the toy library running with a minimum of fuss. You can choose from:

Executive Committee
Co-Chair — Dana
Co-Chair — Sara
Secretary — Jane
Treasurer — Renae

Toy Committee
Chooses, buys and catalogues new toys, games, and puzzles, with input from the general membership about what would be fun and appropriate. Deals with issues such as broken toys, missing pieces, safety recalls and others as needed. — Becky and Jeanette

Social & Dietary
Plans games, activities and crafts for the Halloween, Christmas, Valentine's Day, Easter and any other parties for the children. Decorates the room, sets up tables, etc. Takes note of what is needed and purchases supplies (juice, coffee, tea, cleaning supplies etc.). — Tiffany

Operations
Co-ordinates duty days; books the hall for parties and events at the toy library. — Sarah

Communication
Sends out phone messages about upcoming meetings, parties, cancellations and other information to all members (the membership list is divided, so each person makes only a few calls). — Dana and Sara

Fundraising
Plans and co-ordinates fundraising activities, collects and totals money raised. — Renae, Dana and Sara

Publicity
Publicises the toy library and our activities in the community, through newspaper ads, community education booklets, posters and pamphlets. — Jane, Dana and Sara

Of course, we are all busy, with out families, our work, our social life (What's that??). But in truth, none of these committees are very demanding, and in fact, the toy library is so co-operative that we all lend a hand at almost all of these jobs at one time or another... so don't panic!
