General House Guide

Toys

Toys can be borrowed for a period of two weeks. A maximum of two toys may be borrowed per family. The best way to keep our toy collection in good shape is to be a conscientious borrower.

Toy Check Out
  1. Put your name and due date on the back of the toy inventory card.

  2. Write the toy's description, number and the due date on your family card.

  3. Count the number of pieces before you check out the toy. For example, IP8A10 indicates that this is the eighth toy in the 'Imaginative Play' category, and that it has 10 pieces. A descriptive list of the pieces can be found on the toy inventory card, and on the inventory tag attached to the mesh toy bag.

Record the missing pieces on the tag - then you don't waste 20 minutes on Wednesday morning looking for a piece you never had.

  4. If you have any questions, ask the duty person.

Toy Return
  1. Clean the toys, if necessary, before returning them to the toy library.

  2. All pieces should be present, and the toy should be in the same condition as when borrowed.

  3. If something has been misplaced, don't panic. Please make note of missing or broken/removed pieces in pencil on both the toy inventory card, and the inventory tag attached to the toy's mesh storage bag. Those pieces have a way of turning up in the strangest places!

  4. Note the return date on the toy inventory card.

  5. Tick off returned toys on your family card, and return toys to their proper shelf.

If a toy is permanently lost or badly damaged, the borrower is responsible for replacement cost up to a maximum of $20.00.

Members help to keep the toy library tidy.

New Toys
Once a new toy has been numbered and bagged, it spends a short period as an in-house toy, so that we can all get a look at it, before it goes into general circulation.

If you have any suggestions for toy purchases, please speak to Nicole or Alina.

Supervision

Parents/caregivers are responsible for the supervision of their children. All children must be accompanied by an adult while at the toy library.

The ride-on toys, the jumparoo and other high-action toys are only to be used on the side of the green benches that is closest to the door. The area closest to the counter is for small children and quieter play.

Don't allow children unsupervised access to the toy cupboard area. Escort children to the washroom.
