Toy Inventory Instruction Sheet
Preparation
Bring two pails or buckets, a rag or two, rubber gloves and a few old towels for washing/drying toys.
Instructions
Toys should be sorted by category and spread out around the hall.
Choose a toy to inventory and find its card.
Check to see if toy bag has a tag on it (if there is no bag, please let Alina know). If not, get a blank tag to fill in (with the same info as is on the toy card - look at other tags for examples or ask for help).
Empty contents of toy bag.
Count pieces/parts of toy (check off with pencil on the card as you go - pencil should be erased when you're finished) and note any missing pieces on the card, i.e. mark "MISSING" in pencil for each piece as it applies (do not erase this unless you find the pieces later).
FYI: GM16A5 = 5 pieces to this toy; pieces should be described somewhat on card to help you out.
Check the missing pieces/toy bin in centre of room for any of your missing pieces.
Check in duty table binder for missing/broken pieces pages (binder will be in centre of room) and make sure notes reflect what is on card.
Make sure the info on the toy card is the same as the info on the toy tag (attached to mesh bag), i.e. number of pieces, description of pieces, missing pieces, etc. Write everything in pen on toy cards and tags, except the "MISSING" notation. Mark the date of the inventory on the toy card.
Wash toy and lay or wipe to dry. (You may wish to do this as you count the pieces - whatever works to you!)
Check toy number on card and tag, i.e. AC15A6.
Each piece of toy (where possible) should have the same number on it in black permanent ink. If a piece is not numbered or is worn, please re-number it. (Toys will have to be dry in order to do this.)
Finally, pull al pieces of toy back into its bag and tie up.
If it has all its pieces, place toy back on its proper shelf (be sure to check shelf labels) in the toy cupboard and put toy card back in card catalogue.
but
If there are missing or broken pieces, put card on table in middle of room and put toy bag (with toy inside) in the pile in the middle of the room - if we find their pieces during the rest of the inventory, we can easily return them to the proper toy.
Good job! Now choose another toy and start again...
Note: At the end of inventory, match the info for toys with missing/broken pieces (found in the centre on the room) between their cards, tags and the lists in the duty binder. Toys and card may then be returned to their regular shelves. Decisions about piece/toy replacement can be made at a later date using the duty binder list.
